
Raised in Maryland and Pennsylvania, Markley was trained as an architect at the University of Pennsylvania. He had offices in Harrisburg, PA, and Richmond, VA, before coming to North Carolina - first to Chapel Hill and then Durham. His commissions included a number of residential and institutional structures throughout the city and across the state from the late 1920s until his death in 1959.
