This was the home of R. Wade Williams and his wife Elsie. They lived here for many decades mid-century and also owned a grocery at 508 Canal Street. The house is described in the 2004 Durham National Register listing as a:
1-story bungalow with a picturesque front and side-gabled roofline, including 2 small front cross-gables, with a wraparound Craftsman porch. Other features are 3-over-1 sash windows, Oriental-style eave brackets, and an original large fixed pane window. 1930-1940 CDs: R. Wade Williams owner/occupant (Williams & Sullivan).
C Garage. Ca. 1930. Clipped gable garage with weatherboard.
The home is currently owned by Agape Corner, a local Christian boarding school that has acquired numerous houses in the vicinity of 1213 Holloway. It's hard to miss the bright red metal roofs.
In trying to find more information on the grocery, I stumbled upon the fact that R. Wade Williams Jr. is a modernist architect. Here's more about his work:

As for the grocery? It's changed hands numerous times, but has remained a grocery or liquore store since it was built in the 1930's as far as I can tell, even as that neighborhood died around it.
