1930s two-story Colonial Revival style frame house, now sheathed in wood-grained vinyl. The basic double-pile, three-bay form features a gable roof, a stepped single-shouldered exterior end chimney, six-over-six windows, and entrance and side porches upheld by box posts.

(The information below is from the Historic Preservation Society of Durham Plaque Application for the Shyrock-Stinespring House)

According to Duke Archives, the Watts Street house came into being because Dr. Shryock declined the 1930 Duke house on Campus Drive intended for him and his family. The actual rent for that house was higher than what was quoted him initially. This property has been exclusively in Duke related ownership since its contruction. Apart from kitchen reconfiguration in the early 60s and addition of aluminium siding in 1970, it retains all its original characteristics, including bathrooms.
