Council-Boone House

Commodore Thomas Council, owner of the Five Points Drug Company, vice-president of the Horne Building and Loan Association, and manager of the B.C. Remedy Company (which he co-founded), had this two-story frame Foursquare constructed between 1928 and 1930. Paved brackets support the deep eaves.    The original one-story wraparound porch was removed by subsequent owner Dr. W. Waldo Boone who also added dentilled cornices to the first-story windows, a fanlight over the front door, and one-story wings appended to the west and south elevations. Unsympathetic metal porch posts are more recent.        

From the Preservation Durham Plaque Application (below in italics):

March 2, 1924, Herald-Sun: “Mr. and Mrs. C.T. Council have moved into their handsome new residence, corner of Gloria Avenue and Gregson Street.”       

 Mrs. C.T. Council hosted multiple music gatherings in the house, often covered by local papers.
