A Durham native and graduate of the Hampton Institute, Joseph W. Goodloe was a longtime employee of NC Mutual Life Insurance Company, rising through the ranks to succeed Spaulding as President from 1968 to 1972. Goodloe was also active in the leadership of White Rock Baptist Church, Mechanics & Farmers Bank, the John Avery Boys Club, and other community organizations. He is buried in Beechwood Cemetery.
