Mini-post: Pedestrian Safety

Good article in the Herald-Sun today about how Woodcroft resident Steven Lingafelt videotaped the traffic-pedestrian disaster waiting-to-happen around Jordan H.S. with good annotation of students crossing the sidewalk-less, crosswalk-less road at their own peril. Such are the consequences of urban and road design that devalues the pedestrian in favor of the car (in this particular case, and, more generally, school-siting policies that place schools in isolated car-only suburban contexts.

Someone at the Herald-Sun interviewed me last month about a pedestrian safety article they were planning to write, but I never saw one. (FWIW, I was rear-ended in October after stopping for pedestrians in Trinity Park; my car was totaled; I was hosptitalized for a day and a half with a subdural hematoma and concussion).

It seems Cary simply tickets their students.

It's all about cars. Argh.
