In Jay Tolson's biography of Walker Percy, Pilgrim in the Ruins, Tolson writes that Percy, Shelby Foote, and two other UNC students went to "a roadhouse between Chapel Hill and Durham, a place called Pappa Rogge's, then famous for its beer and barbecue sandwiches," where the boys got into a fight with some locals. Foote was only in Chapel Hill from 1935 to 1937.

The only other reference to this place I've found is in the Duke Chanticleer for 1942, where the section on the Chi Phi fraternity has this: "'Red Head' Miller of Bassett House fame and 'Microbe Hunter' Reisner — both pals, roomates and seniors. They quench their aqueous thirst by weekly sojourns to Papa Rogge's."

Does anybody know anything else about this place?
