Mr. Merle Everett Elliott, of Raleigh, passed away May 30, 2008. He was born December 28, 1922, to the late Murma and Benny Elliott of Durham.

He served our country during World War II as a flight engineer in the 393rd Bombardment 509th Battalion aboard the Enola Gay.

Mr. Elliott retired as a letter carrier for Durham in the late 1980s. He was a huge Duke fan, loved The Andy Griffith Show and was a wonderful Granddad.

He was predeceased by his brother Paul, and his parents.

Survivors include his son and caretaker, John; his daughter-in-law, Lisa; and grandson, Andrew all of Raleigh; sister, Sue Fuller and her husband Charles of Georgia; sister-in-law, Eleanor Elliott of Durham; and nieces and nephews.

His former wife, Doris Elliott; daughters, Jan and Judi and their children also survive.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Sunnybrook for their kind love and attention to Mr. Elliott.

At Mr. Elliott's request no services will be conducted.
