I've always wondered about this building. Based on it's size (according to tax records it's 3,750 square feet with 6BR/7 BA) this grand four square likely sat on a good chunk of land, but is now surrounded by strip malls and industrial businesses. Because it is on the outskirts of town, it is not included in many old records. There are a quite a few similarly grand homes from this time period clustered together along this section of Hillsborough Rd. Does anyone remember anything about who used to live here?
The building is now home to Common Ground Theater and the Triangle Music School. According to the Common Ground's website, the theater itself, which sits behind the house, includes 960 square feet of performance space, seating for 55+, a lobby, box office and dressing room.
