The Dennis Service Station was built in the late 1920s. By the late 1940s, it had become the West Russell Amoco Service Station. At some point between the 1940s and 1970s, the building was replaced by a more modern service station building, sans awning.
Between 1970 and 1975, this was renamed the Ninth Street Amoco. Between 1975 and 1980, it became the West Side Game Room, which it remained into the 1990s.
It currently houses Cozy, a women's-clothing-and-other-stuff store.

In the first pic, that appears to be a Johnson Motor Lines truck turned over on the side. They were a transport company based in Durham. I don't know if they were later bought out, or closed for business. I've met a couple of men who worked for them over the years.

In this photo the station is selling Atlantic products. I am showing this location to be Ralph Dennis' Atlantic service from at least 1928 until at least 1945. It was rebuilt as an Amoco branded site after that time.

In the foreground of the first photo, note the sign which appears to say "Registered Rest Room - A Texaco Dealer Service" (see a reproduction sign here: http://www.worthpoint.com/pmimages/images1/1/0807/25/1_da7ca6a41547cfdefd9b64e43ba05f23.jpg)

I saw a notice recently on one of the neighborhood listservs that the owner of Cozy is putting the business up for sale, after being in business for 30 years on Ninth St and 10 years in that location.
