Colonial Stores had been located at 1106 and 1108 Broad prior to building a new supermarket to the north of these structures in 1953.

By the early 1960s, Colonial Stores closed this location, which then became an Eckerd Drugstore.

By 1975, this was a Revco Drugstore, which it remained through the early 1990s. By the late 1990s, this was Pars Oriental Rugs.
Of late, the building has seen a serious rejuvenation with the addition of three great retail establishments: Watts Grocery, High Strung, and the Broad St. Cafe

If I am correct, the Colonial Store moved to the new Northgate Shopping Center around 1959 0r 1960.

Ooh La Latte Cafe was the transition between Revco and Broad St Cafe I believe. They went on to do the now defunct 305 South Anti-Mall in East Durham on Dillard.

Barry is correct, the Colonial Store moved to Northgate eventually and was located about where Macy's meets the mall facing the Bank of America. About the time Northgate began to enclose, Colonial Stores changed its name to or merged with Big Star and thus the Northgate store became a Big Star Foods. Big Star moved to the Northgate Convenience Center and after Big Star merged with Grand Union was sold to Harris Teeter. The space is now occupied by the cafeteria and guitar store.

I have fond memories of browsing the isles of Revco with my mom in the early 80's when I was 5 or so. We often stopped there after a visit to the CCB bank next door (now the hair salon) and sometimes a visit to the gas station across the street (run by the Melton brothers at the time). It's hard for me to imagine a restaurant occupying that space now!

I remember this location and street well. I was born at Watts Hospital (right around the corner) and grew up in a house at 1105 Sedgefield Street (which was about, oh four blocks or so away from this area). My brother's first job was working at the Eckerd's store. I did my first shoplifting there and was duly marched there by my father who told me I'd better give up thieving as I was no good at it.
