Owned by William Larry Mitchell for most of the home's history until his death in 2015. Larry lived at 2106 Arrington with his life partner, Buford Smith, until Buford's death in 2005. They undertook major renovations in the 1980s, including turning the existing garage into a home office space, adding a sunroom and carport, and building a deck. Larry and Buford maintained an award-winning garden along with two large fountains that they also added to the property.

An employee of General Telephone Company for multiple decades, Larry was known to keep a mannequin in the front lawn along with a sign reading "protected by Smith & Wesson" to scare off would-be home invaders. This was not all bluster - Larry was a lifelong NRA member, information proudly displayed on his gravestone at Maplewood Cemetery.
